There is an onus on businesses to make a conscious effort to be more sustainable and the Business Excellence Awards Essex will praise those that are just that.

The Sustainability Award is open to any business from across the region that has policies in place that relate to sustainability and CSR activities.

Each of the 16 categories at the awards ceremony, which takes place on Thursday 26 September at Five Lakes Resort, will have a category sponsor who is responsible for deciding on the shortlist and eventual winner of each award.

And giving their backing to the Sustainability Award is train operating company Greater Anglia.

The business is dedicated to offering cheap train tickets to London, Norwich, Cambridge, Chelmsford and beyond.

Jonathan Denby is Head of Corporate Affairs at Greater Anglia and discussed the thinking behind their sponsorship.

“We’re passionate about playing our part in supporting the region we serve and championing sustainable growth,” he said.

“As a train operator, by improving services and replacing our entire fleet with new, more energy-efficient trains, we will be doing what we can to help support sustainability in Essex. And this makes the sponsorship of the Sustainability Award extremely apt.”

As previously mentioned, Greater Anglia will select the award’s deserving winner and Jonathan highlighted what they will be looking for when they make their decision.

“We will be looking for examples of companies that have made real, tangible improvements to their sustainability and CSR credentials, demonstrating evidence of better environmental performance, with wider benefits for the area they serve,” he said.

“We will also be seeking evidence of the sustainable approach being embedded in their normal business practice.”
